Hi everyone!

It’s a new year, a new semester, and the start of a new blog. Ellie Nicole has been a great blog documenting my inspiration, however I think it’s time for my blog to grow with me. That is why I’d like to introduce my newest adventure, City Brewed. City Brewed represents the blend of my life, from outfit posting, to all that the City has to offer. Previous posts have been transferred to my new blog, and the Jennifer Elizabeth x Ellie Eckert contest is absolutely still going on (so submit your entries)! I recently did a guest post for Fuyume.net, which you can see here! After checking out her blog, I was instantly sucked in. I asked Faye to do a few interview questions, so here they are!

Ellie: What is your blog, Fuyume.net, about?
Faye: Fuyume.net is a personal blog examining japanese designers, styles and fashion related issues intermingled with foodie posts and outfit posts.

Ellie: What inspired you to start blogging?
Faye: My passion for japanese fashion was my starting point and the fact
that there was a lack of blogs like mine. I discovered many streetstyle
tokyo blogs but none with the variety that I was after.

Ellie: Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
Faye: My advice would be to discover your passion and reflect that in
your writing. Join IFB and become an active member as its a great
resource. I was lucky my blog fills a specific niche and that has
helped me gain over 400 followers, 350 subscribers and 60,000+
pageviews a month in the 6 months I’ve been blogging.I attribute that
to creating content thats original and content that fills a niche.
There are a lot of fashion blogs out there so its vital you create
original content. As V of gritandglamour.com says “original content is
queen.”

These Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s really have become my favorite shoe. They’re insanely comfortable, and can make any outfit a bit edgier.

"wurst place on the beech"

When Steve was in town, my mom and I decided to take him on a tour of our good ol’ town. When we made it down to Indian Rocks beach (see this post for our candy extravaganzas) we came across an old bar called Mahuffer’s, which is apparently the “wurst place on the beech.”

[Surprisingly enough, these photos were taken in the parking lot, and inside the bar. I figured I’d leave out some of the disturbing photographs]

As you guys probably saw from a few posts back, I had Lasik surgery last week. I went from practically blind to 20/20 vision in less than 24 hours—and it’s still improving! The crisp colors in these photos is how I’m seeing everything these days, so I must thank my amazing mother for that (and Dr. Weinstock, who I really thought about hugging at my follow-up appointment).

To say I’ve been enjoying Florida’s sunshine before returning back to New York would be an understatement. Over the weekend we made a trip to the Dunedin Causeway, and as you can see, the weather definitely didn’t disappoint.

the 2011 golden globe awards

The fashion on last nights Golden Globes was truly amazing. One thing I absolutely loved was the huge presence of blush tones. Here are my favorites from last night:

Ellie Eckert: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work.
Jennifer Elizabeth: I have always been absolutely obsessed with fashion. Ever since I was very little, I knew what I wanted to do be in this industry. I love the glamour, the inspiration that can come from anywhere, the detail in a designers collection and just absorbing it all like a sponge. I love researching the old and the new. All of my jewelry is taken from vintage elements or inspired by different periods of time.

EE: How did you get started designing jewelry?
JE: I got started designing jewelry completely by accident! I had always wanted to be a fashion designer. I went to FIT where I majored in Fashion Design with a specialization in evening wear. I loved it so much! I always loved vintage jewelry but never thought of that as a career. So when I graduated I worked in the fashion industry for almost three years with a job as a fashion designer for a women’s suit company. It was incredibly boring, nothing at all like I thought it would be, and there was no glamour what so ever. So one day when I had gotten home from work I was looking through my mass collection of vintage jewelry and I just started putting pieces together and randomly made a necklace. I wore it to work the next day and by the end of the day I had three orders from my co-workers for a necklace like mine. It was amazing and it was so great because it was something I really loved doing. I love my job more than anything, and thats why I left my job as a fashion designer and started my own company.

EE: What inspires you most?
JE: I am mostly inspired by the 60’s and 70’s. The hippie culture, the disco glam, I think all of that is so breath taking and beautiful. But I am also inspired by nature, especially animals, and I am inspired by my fashion loving friends!

EE: Can you tell us a bit about the typical day of a jewelry designer?
JE: No such thing as a typical day of a jewelry designer, lol… When you own your own company, you take on so many different “hats.” One day I can be designing pieces for the next collection, the next I can be in London meeting with buyers, and the next I can be filling out enormous amounts of paper work….it’s non-stop, but I love every minute of it.

EE: What can we expect from your upcoming collections?
JE: There are quite a few things coming up with next collections. I am working with a Wildlife Trust in Kenya where I am designing a collection based on the animals they are protecting there and 10% of all of the proceeds from this part of the collection go to the Trust. I am also collaborating with an amazing blogger on a small collection due out in February. I’m also going to be working with a handbag designer to create a small collection of bags that are vintage inspired and are eco-friendly, because I use absolutely NO animal products. So that means no leathers or suedes, or skins, etc. There are about 5 more collections, but I don’t want to give all of my secrets away!

I also have my Signature collection which I make myself by hand, and almost all of it is elements from vintage pieces that I take apart and then re-construct.

EE: Do you have any advice for aspiring jewelry designers?
JE: Think long and hard about what kind of jewelry you want to make. There is so much out there to work with that it is really helpful to find your niche in the market. Also keep in mind that this is a 24 hour a day, seven days a week job. You never ever have time off. The second you feel like you have free time, you will fail. It’s the harsh truth.
